Overview

distance sensor cube timer

A rubiks cube timer using a distance sensor and a raspberry pi 4, and possibly the pi pico to reduce size and cost.

How to use

Download the folder 'distance-sensor-cube-timer' and run the python script 'timer'. The electronics consist of a raspberry pi 4 (I will be looking into using a pi pico), a bread board, jumper cables and a Distance sensor. Then follow the diagram below to connect the sensor to the pi.

Hey there, promised on Reddit that I'll take a look.

Overall the code is lovely and simple, and I'm not going to interfere too much.

I think you need to have a look at the average_calculator.py, I think there might be an error in there.

In your timer.py I would look into moving some of the ifs - you don't necessarily need the nesting you are having. This will make it a bit more readable. Maybe consider extracting some of it into minor methods, again to improve on readability.

In distance.py you can just directly return (TimeElapsed * 34300) / 2, again - readability in my book.

Let me know if you want more than just suggestions. Or if you were looking for something else entirely.

  • v1.2.0(Feb 24, 2022)

Works on windows! kind of, it uses the enter key to start and stop the timer. it auto detects if you have the RPi.gpio module installed and runs and deletes necessary code if you dont have it.

  • v1.0.0(Feb 16, 2022)

It has all the base features i want to add the timer, it still only works on the raspberry pi with the distance sensor which can be coded to work with other things if it outputs True and False to stop and start the timer.
